MusicaNova Kicks Off 2015-16 Season

MusicaNova begins its 13th season this month with an expanded lineup of events, continuing its mission to play great new, neglected and traditional music and introduce young musicians to audiences in the Valley.  The MusicaNova season is comprised of its Orchestra Concerts held in the Central Arts District; Collaborative Concerts performing with musicians from other genres such as jazz, Caribbean and Brazilian music; Salon Concerts in private homes; and its Young Artists Series, showcasing Valley musicians under age 18 in recital.

Events in September and October include:

Salon Concert: Duo Violinists Plus One
September 12; 4pm

Enjoy beverages and hors d’oeuvres, learn about the upcoming MusicaNova season, and hear music from Sarasate, Bach, Shostakovich and Louis Armstrong played by duo violinists Joy Pan and Lan Qiu with collaborative pianist Walter Cosand, in a Paradise Valley home.
$50 suggested donation per person; see website for address.

Collaborative Concert: Step it Up! The Power of Music Therapy
September 20; 3pm

Board-certified Music Therapist Kristin Fray opens the season with a powerful presentation about her experiences as a music therapist, and gives the audience a hands-on demonstration of three different types of interactive intervention activities she uses.
Free admission; donations accepted. Held at Scottsdale Presbyterian Church
3421 North Hayden Road, Scottsdale.

Collaborative Concert: Paradise Winds
October 4; 3pm
Local favorites and MusicaNova Orchestra concert stars, Paradise Winds, join the Collaborative Concerts series to play their unique blend of classical and cutting-edge modern music. Free admission; donations accepted. Held at Scottsdale Presbyterian Church.

Young Artist Recital: Kathleen Wu, flute; Katrina Jia, piano
October 17; 4pm
Flautist Kathleen Wu and pianist Katrina Jia open the Young Artists Concerts season in the new Recital Hall at the Arizona Piano Company. $15 general admission, $10 seniors/students. Arizona Piano Company is located at 4134 East Wood Street in Phoenix.
