Alzheimer’s Association To Host Conference In Anthem

The Anthem Civic Building will be the site of the May 8 Alzheimer’s Conference, hosted by the Alzheimer’s Association Desert Southwest Chapter. The free event, which runs 12-5pm, will cover facts and resources about Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

More than five million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease, including an estimated 200,000 individuals under age 65. One in nine people over the age of 65 has a form of Alzheimer’s; a new diagnosis is made every 67 seconds. At the conference, learn about the basics of dementia, legal and financial planning for patients, behaviors and communication and resources that the Alzheimer’s Association can provide.

According to the 2010 Census, there are 2,203 people age 65 or older in Anthem.

Approximately one in nine of the population has Alzheimer’s or a related dementia in the Anthem area, and one in three of those over 85 have Alzheimer’s or a related dementia.

According to the National Alliance on Caregiving, there is an average of at least seven people involved in the care for a person affected.

When surrounding areas are added to the Anthem average, the total number of those affected and involved caregiving increases.
