solomanhome1Tucked away on the 17th Fairway of the Boulders Resort and Golf Club is what many call nothing short of a masterpiece – a gem like no other. The perfectly secluded, organic Carefree residence is a hand-sculpted, timeless piece of art and architecture. Massive 200-year-old Spanish doors open into a serene entry-courtyard with a Japanese Zen-like garden and the sound of a meandering stream running through it.

Designed by Lash McDaniel and featured by him in the “Masters of the Southwest” edition of Phoenix Home and Garden magazine, this spectacular dwelling with separate guest house took three years to plan.

“The terms we used to convey our vision were nothing short of amorphous,” says ownersolomanhome3

Paula Soloman. “We used words such as ‘tactile,’ ‘sensual,’ ‘serene,’ ‘Zen-like.’ We wanted a piece of sculpture – something that could never be replicated and something that would be timeless.”

Curvilinear in its entirety, the home is virtually shaped and constructed by hand, with everything flowing and three-dimensional. Light plays upon the hand-troweled textured concrete walls and fireplaces, all but asking to be touched and experienced from different angles. Texture is everywhere, complementing the unison of contemporary and southwest architecture. The negative edge lagoon pool, mountains, city lights and golf course can be seen solomanhome2from ceiling-to-floor walls of glass creating an inside-out living space, with the landscape changing throughout the day.

“This time of year, around 10am, the light in the entry courtyard transforms the space into something almost magical,” says Soloman. “It intensifies the different shading and shadows of the landscaping.”

Soloman also loves the light from sunset into evening.

“The pool patio is very quiet and the sunset glowing on the mountains and boulders is truly breathtaking. As dusk turns into evening, there is yet another mood. City lights come up into the beautiful dark sky with a million stars all around.”solomanhome4

Sophisticated, yet designed with understated elegance, this Exceptional Home is, in a word, breathtaking.
