Scottsdale Named A Top Soccer City

Scottsdale has been named one of the Top 10 Soccer Cities by Livability.com, a national website that highlights more than 500 of America’s best places to live and visit.

Top 10 Soccer Cities
1. Overland Park, KS
2. Plano, TX
3. San Bernardino, CA
4. Rock Hill, SC
5. Murfreesboro, TN
6. Chapel Hill, NC
7. Appleton, WI
8. West Jordan, UT
9. Scottsdale, AZ
10. Princeton, NJ

To help determine the criteria for this list, Livability.com editors followed the lead of US Youth Soccer, who select which cities play host to tournaments. Editors looked for small to mid-size cities with the best soccer programs and facilities as well as cities with quality park systems, well-maintained streets and other cultural and recreational amenities.
Soccer players in the Valley are fortunate to have high quality playing facilities. The Scottsdale Sports Complex is a 71-acre park with 10 playing fields. Located in Phoenix, is the Reach 11 Sports Complex, which has 18 regulation sized soccer fields, including a state-of-the-art synthetic turf championship field. Both facilities have held soccer tournaments. The Reach 11 Sports Complex hosted the 2012 US Youth Soccer Region IV Championships this month and the 2011 National Championships.
Even if you don’t play what has become the most popular youth sport in the country, a quick look at a city’s soccer scene can offer clues about what the community is like. The size of soccer clubs, the quantity and quality of playing fields and the number of tournaments a city hosts can give potential residents an indication of what it would be like to live there.

“When we are looking to host events, the quality of the complex is our top priority,” says Todd Roby, director of communications for US Youth Soccer. “This generally indicates what a community has invested in the sport and their interest in growing the game.”
