Christmas Pageant Brings Cave Creek To Life

By Curtis Riggs – A near 60-year Cave Creek holiday tradition will take place near the entrance to the Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area the evenings of December 3 and 4 when the community Christmas Pageant takes place. The 58th annual Desert Foothills Kiwanis 2011 Christmas Pageant will be held above the parking lot at the end of Spur Cross Road on both evenings.

The pageant, which began in 1952, features local actors as well as live animals in the re-telling of the story of the birth of Jesus Christ.

The pageant was first put on by 4-H leader Jean Hackler and featured young members of her club along with adults from the community. It initially was held at the base of Black Mountain.

The Cave Creek holiday tradition has been carried forward by local volunteers like Toby Payne. It could not continue each year without the efforts of Payne and his dedicated team of volunteers.

Those who plan on attending should dress warmly, wear sturdy shoes and bring a flashlight and a blanket to sit on. For more information about Cave Creek happenings visit | CST
